Demi is very loving and playful. She likes to cuddle and be in your lap. She gets along great with other dogs and loves playing with them. Demi also does well with cats. She is almost potty trained.

Demi is a parvo survivor. Someone bought her, didn't take very good care of her and allowed her to contract parvovirus (lack of proper immunizations). The people didn't want to pay for her treatment so she was turned into our rescue for care and adoption. She's in great health now and eager to start her new life with her forever family!

Update: Demi has been adopted, but is coming back. Her adoptive family said she is very loving, however, she has growled and bitten their children. She doesn't like them to pet them over top of their head (not recommended by experts for anyone to do with a dog - they just don't like it, even if they tolerate it). She has never responded this way at the vet's office (locally) or in our foster home. This may be due to the adjustment period and going to another home. She hasn't been there very long.

Dog's growl and bite due to fear, which is anxiety based. We're sure after all she's been through, she's a bit anxious. She needs an adoptive family who is going to give her the adjustment time period she needs. She may be feeling overwhelmed. Most animals do not automatically adjust to a new environment, just as humans do not. It takes time, patience and positive situations/food rewards to help get them there. We support all of our adopters through the adjustment process, and for however long you need us. We're always here.

For the reasons stated above, we do not want to adopt her to a home with very small children at this time. She is happy, outgoing and loving, but has been through a good bit. Dogs/puppies also respond differently in different environments with different people and animals. We'd like to find the one that matches her best. A home with adults only or adults and older children who are dog experienced, plus have another "leader dog" would be excellent! If you feel that is you, please contact us or send in your application.

All puppies receive a series of 3 distemper/parvovirus vaccines, kennel cough vaccine, rabies vaccine, several dewormings, monthly heartworm prevention, microchip, and are spayed/neutered through CARE.
